Dinner & Conversation

Well what a great time I had last night!  I think I may have broken our friends though.....

Well maybe just the hubby (that doesn't look right) who stayed up being talked at until the wee small hours. Mrs is far too sensible a woman to fall for that one and retired at a more user friendly hour.  Broke my own hubby too. He kept falling asleep on the cat. He also managed to put himself down for a nap about five minutes after visitors dragged their tired bones out the door this morning.  Apparently a four hour nap was just the go! Such a sook :)

It was just so lovely to have full blown, convoluted, in depth conversation for HOURS! Thank you friends!

Busy, Busy...etc

Well I have been a busy little camper! I have been having fun making lots of experimental food to hopefully not poison good friends with. So far in the last two days I have made hummus, tzatziki, basil pesto, baba ganoush, grissini, pumpkin & pinenut salad, mushrooms with thyme, lamb kofta, chicken skewers and Guinness brownies. Still to go - raspberry coulis, assorted salads & antipasto /cheese platters to prepare.  For four people. Anyone know a small third world country that needs feeding?  I know the Guinness brownie dessert doesn't really go with the rest but, hey, John likes it!  Hope I can manage to stay awake for the actual dinner....

This food stuff is good for keeping the mind busy.  I'm afraid I have stopped reading/watching the news and am just scanning blogs I normal devour.  I am having a case of *no idea what the world is coming to* itis.  Our election here in Queensland seemed more like a predator feeding frenzy than a considered democratic process.  How the utter destruction of one side makes for stable considered parliamentary process is beyond me.  Did we learn nothing from the LNP/National walloping which saw them barely able to function in Opposition. Our new government spent many, many years in the wilderness as an Opposition without a clue. The steady revolving door of leadership, coupled with a seeming inability to engage with issues, kept them from being an alternative government.  Somehow appointing a strange little micromanager from outside of the parliamentary party as leader seems to have the populous forgiving the obvious ineptitude of the sitting members.  One Newman to rule them all, apparently.

And don't let me get started on the USA electoral debacle.  Watching the Republican primaries just makes me wish a little that I didn't read so much science fiction.  Hysterical flashes of "The Handmaids Tale" & "Little Brother" alternating with "Revolt in 2100".  And that is just the political scene.........

I don't sleep well......

Got lost.....

Don't seem to have been here for a VERY long time.  Not sure how that happened.  It feels like I lost a whole couple of years without trying.  Perils of being a dedicated home-body. I am back on the trail of my life.  I read a lot of what other people think about the world in general - why shouldn't I do the same?  So look out.  From now on I will be in full blown opinionated mode.
